PROCEDURE METHOD FOR PORTRAITURE:
Speaking to a client in person to get acquainted, and understand their tastes, style, and aesthetics helps me to create an intimate, accurate portrait. I prefer to work from photographs that I take myself, then using a composite. People are usually most comfortable presenting themselves in their own environment. The wide choice of poses, location, and scheduling with ample reference yields a natural, individually tailored portrait.
Years of painting from life has given me the background to transpose my skills into attaining equally effective results using photographs. I'm able to work with more intensity and at optimal times with the flexibility of this method. If necessary, I can finish a painting in less than two weeks. On average, two to eight weeks are required for completion depending on the specifics.
In the instance of posthumous commissions, I carefully examine a multitude of photos for the qualities needed to be sure of successfully honoring the person. I also speak with loved ones to help get a dimensional sense of their character.
